About the Midwives

Chloe Rios is our new student!  Here’s info about her:

I am currently a midwifery student at Southwest Wisconsin college a MEAC approved school. After graduating with my degree I plan to take the NARM exam to become a CPM, then obtain my midwife license in Michigan. I was born and raised in Newaygo County where I know live with my husband and daughter. I became interested in birth work while getting my BS in environmental science at GVSU. The interconnections between environmental justice and women’s reproductive health and rights are astounding to me! After graduating in 2021 I trained as a birth doula and shortly after began wondering about becoming a midwife even though it seemed unlikely. I had my daughter in 2022 and we decided that we wanted to travel before putting down roots. The three of us traveled 25+ states, exploring national parks and places we might want to live permanently. Eventually the pull to return home to our family and friends was strong and we came back at the end of 2024. A year later I started my schooling journey and I am so excited and blessed to have the opportunity to serve the women and families in this area. I am certified in CPR and Neonatal Resuscitation, and as a student I promise to uphold the virtues of the midwife code of conduct. It will always be my priority to ensure autonomy, advocacy and compassion are at the center of your care!

  • Dorothy Vandezande, CPM, LM

Dorothy has her own practice now!  Genesis Midwifery!  We still occasionally assist each other at births, and do back up when needed.           Home birth was a normal part of my growing-up years. Many friends and family members had home births and I always knew I wanted to have my own…

  • Laurie Zoyiopoulos, CPM, LM

I first came to homebirth and midwifery care as a client. Patrice was our midwife for 2 of our 3 children and after the homebirth of our 3rd child (1987) I became interested in becoming a midwife, someday. This being such a daunting accomplishment and my children being so young, I quickly accepted Patrice’s invitation…
